Discovering who you are meant to be
Jill’s Pick of the Month
The road to discovery begins with faith
I confess, I hated reading as a child. I preferred creating. Whether it was painting, playing the piano, sewing, or constructing something from nothing, there was always another project in the works. I well remember the summer I used boxes in all shapes and sizes to build a crazy camper for my dolls atop our old red wagon. I did read a storybook to my dolls before I tucked them in bed the night of our first camping adventure to visit a nearby neighbor.
While I grew up with my nose in the Bible, outside of required school reading and encouraged church reading, books could not hold my attention.
When I entered adulthood, and specifically, motherhood, I didn’t give up creating, but I finally acquired a love of reading or perhaps more accurately, studying a good read, starting with parenting books. Soon to be followed by devotionals, then theology, and then, classical Christian writings. The stuff you have to read and reread before you can understand the author’s intent.
I’ll share books with you that I believe will help build your faith walk, because I learned in the darkest seasons of my life, it is faith and knowing God is near that will ultimately see you through.
It distresses me to see so many books about self-care for women. It is not true that you must love yourself first for the world to love you or to find love. When we accept God’s love and love Him in return, He will take care of us, and the rest of life’s priorities will fall in line.
The books I recommend may not look much like other women’s book lists, but I believe with my whole heart, each one will help you find the freedom you’re seeking to become all you are meant to be.
